The Vermont Barn Preservation Grant program, established in 1992, is the oldest state-funded agricultural grant program in the United States. It provides competitive, matching grants to support the rehabilitation and adaptive reuse of historic agricultural buildings—such as barns, silos, corn cribs, sugar houses, and equipment sheds—that are at least 50 years old and listed or eligible for listing in the State Register of Historic Places. The program aims to protect Vermont's agricultural and architectural heritage, stimulate local economies, support independent businesses, and strengthen community identity and visitor experience.
