    Description

This program, administered by the National Park Service (NPS) under the Historic Preservation Fund, provides competitive grants to federally recognized Tribes, Alaska Native Villages/Corporations, and Native Hawaiian Organizations for projects that protect and preserve tribal heritage, culture, and historic resources. Projects may include, but are not limited to, traditional skills preservation, oral history, documentation and protection of sacred and historic places, plant and animal species important in tradition, and the establishment or strengthening of tribal historic preservation offices.

The program aims to help tribes safeguard their unique cultural identities, traditions, and sites of significance, supporting both tangible and intangible heritage. All work must comply with federal preservation standards and environmental regulations, and the program does not fund new construction, acquisition of sites, or long-term maintenance.
