--- ## Description The Historical Archives Program of the Wenner-Gren Foundation is designed to encourage the preservation of unpublished personal research materials that are significant for research on the history of anthropology. Grants are provided to assist senior scholars (or their heirs) with the costs of preparing and transferring such materials to an appropriate archival repository. The initiative aims to ensure the long-term accessibility of valuable anthropological research materials for future scholarship. --- ## Due Dates - Applications are considered on a rolling basis. - **Note:** The program is currently on a temporary hiatus and is not accepting applications at this time. --- ## Funding Amount - Maximum grant amount: **$15,000** per project. - Funding covers the basic preparation and transfer of materials for archival deposit. - **No funds** are provided for institutional overhead, administration fees, or efforts to digitize/enhance existing collections. --- ## Eligibility - Open to: - Doctorates in anthropology - Doctorates in related fields - Independent scholars - Heirs, colleagues, friends, and students of established anthropologists - Applicants must: - Have legal access to the archival materials. - Demonstrate that arrangements have been made with a suitable repository to receive the materials. - Request funds only for basic preparation and transfer costs (not for digitization or facility establishment). - Materials must be unpublished and of recognized value for research on the history of anthropology. --- ## Application Process - **Step 1:** Submit a preliminary inquiry (max 2 pages) via email to Mark Mahoney ([mmahoney@wennergren.org](mailto:mmahoney@wennergren.org)). The inquiry must include: - A brief biographical sketch of the anthropologist whose materials will be preserved. - Description of the collection (size and contents). - Overview of preparation steps for archival deposit. - Name of the intended archival repository. - If the inquiry is deemed eligible and competitive, official application materials and a portal link will be provided. - All successful applicants must comply with U.S. laws, including OFAC regulations for projects in sanctioned countries.
