The History of Art Grants program from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation supports scholarly initiatives that enhance the appreciation and understanding of European art and architecture from antiquity through the early 19th century. The program funds a broad range of activities, including archival projects, scholarly databases, documentation efforts, museum exhibitions, publications, photographic campaigns, scholarly catalogues, and technical or scientific studies. It also supports knowledge-sharing among art historians—such as international exchanges, conferences, symposia, consultations, and professional events—as well as mentored professional development opportunities in art museums, with a focus on collaboration between educators and curators. As of August 2025, the Digital Art History and Interpretive Fellowships for Art Museums programs have been integrated into this grant.
