Description
Mississippi Home Corporation (MHC) administers the Housing Trust Fund (HTF) to address affordable rental housing needs for extremely low- and very low-income households in Mississippi. Its rental development program assists nonprofit organizations and experienced developers producing and managing housing for extremely low-income residents. Priority is given to critical housing needs, particularly preventing and reducing homelessness and expanding permanent housing opportunities for people experiencing homelessness and people with serious mental illness.
The program supports permanent single-family and multifamily rental housing through construction, rehabilitation, acquisition combined with development, conversion of nonresidential buildings, and manufactured housing. MHC reviews project readiness and financing to confirm that HTF assistance fills a financing gap without providing excess federal subsidies. Projects are selected through a ranking process, with awards subject to underwriting and available funds.
