This program funds locally-initiated, small-scale public humanities projects throughout California. The goal is to foster greater public participation and understanding across diverse communities, with a special emphasis on reaching new and underserved audiences. Projects must be rooted in the humanities and provide meaningful, interactive learning experiences for the public. Activities may include community dialogues, reading or film discussion groups, workshops, speaker series, oral history projects, and other participatory formats, delivered in-person, virtually, or in hybrid settings.
