This research opportunity supports postdoctoral scientists to investigate hydrogen and oxygen storage solutions for fuel cells powering future Naval Unmanned Undersea Vehicles (UUVs). Current battery technologies limit underwater endurance, and fuel cells offer a promising alternative by increasing onboard energy density. The focus is on addressing the scientific and technical challenges of storing fuels and oxidizers underwater from a basic science perspective.
Research will be conducted at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Washington, DC, within a newly established nanoscale science and technology facility.
