Summary: Supports research on how race, citizenship, legal status, and policy shape immigrant and native-born outcomes in the U.S.
This funding opportunity, part of the Russell Sage Foundation/Carnegie Corporation Initiative, seeks to advance innovative social science research that deepens understanding of how race, citizenship, legal status, politics, political culture, and public policy affect the integration and outcomes of immigrants and native-born individuals of various racial and ethnic backgrounds across generations. The initiative is a special focus within the Foundation’s Race, Ethnicity, and Immigration Program and encourages projects that strengthen theoretical, methodological, and empirical knowledge about immigrant integration in the U.S.
Research topics of interest include (but are not limited to): legal status and its effects on integration, naturalization and civic engagement, mixed-ancestry and ethnic identity, race and religion, legacies of exclusion and inequality, and the impact of politics and public policy on immigrant outcomes. Projects that utilize novel data sources, enhance measurement of integration, or offer comparative or historical perspectives are welcomed.
