This grant supports research tracking infants and mother-infant pairs to understand how first exposures to influenza, through infection or vaccination, shape immune responses and inform better vaccine design.
Funder: National Institutes of Health
Due Dates: June 4, 2026 (Full application)
Funding Amounts: Up to $3,000,000 per award; estimated total program funding $9,600,000; ~3 awards expected
Summary: Supports research on how initial and repeated influenza exposures or vaccinations shape infant and childhood immunity to inform future vaccine design.
Key Information: Foreign subawards/subcontracts are not allowed; see eligibility for international collaboration rules.
This opportunity supports the establishment or continuation of longitudinal infant cohorts to determine and compare how initial and repeated natural influenza infections and/or influenza vaccinations shape infant and childhood immunity to future influenza exposures. The primary goal is to understand how these exposures influence immune responses to subsequent influenza infections and/or vaccines, ultimately providing key information to facilitate the design of durable, broadly protective influenza vaccines.
