The program prioritizes California-based artists and culturally specific forms of artistic expression rooted in the communities served. Eligible projects must use artistic practices to respond to community-defined needs related to social, political, and economic inequalities, such as systemic marginalization, justice system involvement, arts learning, poverty, health disparities, disability access, housing and food insecurity, cultural and social justice, intergenerational learning, veterans’ issues, immigration and refugee matters, LGBTQIA+ concerns, environmental sustainability, and climate-related challenges.
