Summary: Supports assistant professors pursuing innovative, multidisciplinary research on human infectious disease pathogenesis and host-pathogen interactions.
Key Information: Highly competitive; only degree-granting institutions in the US/Canada eligible; institutional support required.
This program supports mid-to-late assistant professors in the US and Canada to conduct high-impact, multidisciplinary research on the mechanisms of infectious disease pathogenesis. The award is intended to foster innovative, high-risk projects that significantly advance understanding of host-pathogen interactions, covering areas from molecular mechanisms to systemic effects. Research may focus on colonization, infection, commensalism, and other host-microbe relationships, including under-studied and emerging diseases. Interdisciplinary and climate change-related approaches, as well as excellent animal models relevant to human disease, are encouraged.
