Summary: Supports projects to document and report religious freedom abuses in Nigeria, strengthening accountability, advocacy, and sustainability through civil society capacity building and evidence-based engagement.
The U.S. Department of State’s Office of International Religious Freedom (IRF) is offering funding for projects aimed at improving the documentation and reporting of religious freedom abuses in Nigeria. The initiative seeks to enhance accountability, advocacy, and memorialization by equipping civil society organizations, religious leaders, academics, journalists, and survivors to collect and utilize evidence of violence and discrimination based on faith. Priority is given to capacity building for local actors, effective engagement with accountability mechanisms at regional, international, and national levels, and fostering sustainable partnerships. Activities must be responsive to current religious freedom restrictions, align with U.S. foreign policy, and demonstrate a nuanced understanding of Nigeria’s security environment, particularly in regions most affected by religious violence.
