Summary: Honors early-career scientists for impactful fieldwork-focused volcanology research on U.S. volcanoes.
This award, established in memory of Jack Kleinman (USGS), recognizes early-career scientists who demonstrate enthusiasm, integrity, reliability, and a passion for fieldwork in volcanology. The program specifically supports students conducting geologic, geochemical, geophysical, or hazards-related research on U.S. volcanoes, with a strong emphasis on projects involving significant fieldwork. Preference is given to studies in regions such as the Cascade Range, Aleutian Arc, Hawaii, Yellowstone, Long Valley, or distributed volcanism in the western United States. Awardees may also be invited to present their research in the USGS Kleinman Seminar Series and participate in the GSA annual meeting’s Awards Ceremony.
