Eligible expenses include payments to consultants and research assistants, travel, accommodation, and necessary equipment for fieldwork. The program prioritizes projects producing new data, especially on endangered languages and cultures, and gives special consideration to research focused on the Pacific Northwest region. Three funding tiers are available: Individual, Group, and Kinkade grants.
