The Jeffrey and Joan Matthews Developing Leaders Program is a two-year initiative by the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract (SSAT) designed to develop and support mid-career faculty who identify as underrepresented voices in academic surgery. Participants receive executive coaching, formal leadership training, personalized development planning, and opportunities to serve on SSAT committees and present Grand Rounds as visiting professors. The program aims to expand professional visibility, build networks within the SSAT, and provide exposure to the national academic surgical community through major conferences and events.
