The Joe D. Seger Project Grants provide targeted support for ASOR-affiliated archaeological excavation projects. Established in 2016, these grants are intended to help newer and smaller field projects get established or to fund discrete components of larger projects. The program gives preference to principal investigators (PIs) who have secured matching funds from their institutions or other sources, aiming to address specific project needs and help leverage additional funding. Grants are not intended for travel expenses for students or junior staff, but rather for direct project costs. Only one application per project or site is funded per year, and projects that have received an ASOR Project Grant (Dana, Gold, Harris, or Seger) in the past three years are less likely to be selected.
