The Julia E. Berry Research Award is designed to support members of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) in conducting research projects that examine the careers of English majors and/or the role and function of English in career development. The award encourages a wide range of research topics and methodologies, including but not limited to historical, archival, rhetorical, qualitative, quantitative, ethnographic, and textual approaches.
Recipients are expected to produce two distinct final products: one for a scholarly audience in English or literacy studies, and another tailored to a broader public audience. Awardees must also present their research at one of the two NCTE Annual Conventions following receipt of the award. NCTE emphasizes diversity in applicants, projects, and research strategies for this award.
