--- ## Description This award honors students who have made significant contributions to green chemistry and engineering through research or studies that reduce or eliminate hazardous substances in chemical processes. The program seeks to recognize innovative projects that demonstrate potential benefits for human health or the environment and have broad applicability. The award is presented annually at the Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference and administered by the ACS Green Chemistry Institute. --- ## Due Dates - November 2026 (anticipated/projected full application deadline via ACS Green Chemistry Institute portal) *All dates are projected based on the annual cycle; check the program page for updates.* --- ## Funding Amount - Each recipient receives a $1,000 cash prize. - Reimbursement of up to $1,000 for travel expenses to attend the Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference. - Two awards are given annually. --- ## Eligibility - Open to undergraduate and graduate students worldwide (U.S. and international). - Applicants must demonstrate that their research or studies are relevant to green chemistry and/or engineering. - Only one application per person per year; applicants cannot apply for multiple ACS Green Chemistry Institute student awards in the same cycle. - Research must address one or more of the following focus areas: - Greener synthetic pathways (e.g., novel, less hazardous, or renewable feedstocks and catalysts). - Greener reaction conditions (e.g., safer solvents, energy efficiency, pollution prevention). - Design of safer chemicals (e.g., less hazardous, recyclable, biodegradable products). --- ## Application Process - Applications are submitted online via the [ACS Green Chemistry Institute Application Portal](https://gci.acs.org/). - Required materials include: - Applicant and faculty advisor contact information. - Academic and research details, including a research description (title, abstract, and up to 5-page narrative). - Curriculum vitae or résumé (max 2 pages). - Letter of nomination from the faculty advisor, supervisor, or department chair (uploaded directly via portal). - Brief statement of financial need for travel support (from advisor/supervisor/chair). - Applicants must be prepared to present their research at the Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference if selected. - Winners are required to submit a brief report summarizing their conference experience. --- ## Additional Information - Selection is based on innovation, scientific merit, potential human health or environmental benefits, and broad applicability. - The award is presented at the ACS Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference, which will next be held June 15–18, 2026, in San Antonio, TX. - Winners are typically notified by the end of January following the application deadline. --- ## External Links - [ACS Green Chemistry Institute – Kenneth G.
