The Killam Awards for Excellence in Mentoring honor faculty members at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Vancouver campus who have demonstrated exceptional mentorship of graduate students over many years. The awards acknowledge faculty who foster intellectual, professional, and personal growth in their mentees, model integrity and scholarly excellence, and promote a climate of respect, inclusion, and collegiality. Two awards are given annually: one for a mid-career faculty member (less than 12 years of university service) and one for a senior faculty member (12 or more years of university service). The selection process values sustained mentorship activity, including efforts that go beyond research supervision to support students’ broader development and community service.
