Description
4Culture, in partnership with King County Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD), will commission one artist or artist-led team to create original artwork for the east glass stairwell façade and upper north-facing glass window of the upgraded Elliott West Wet Weather Treatment Station. The artwork should respond to the building’s architecture, surrounding environment, and role as essential public infrastructure, engaging the community and people traveling along Elliott Avenue West.
The project’s “Water’s Edge” theme reflects Elliott Bay’s shoreline and its transformation over 130 years from a natural edge to one shaped by human design and industry. Priorities include connections to Interbay, Lower Queen Anne, the surrounding landscape, and Puget Sound. The selected artist will collaborate with project partners and Laura Haddad, considering her existing artwork, Undercurrents, and her designs for the station’s perforated metal panels.
