--- ## Description This opportunity from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) funds large research projects (R01 mechanism) focused on advancing the base of knowledge for the detection, prevention, and reduction of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Projects may address clinical efficacy and effectiveness of preventive interventions, epidemiological aspects of HAIs (such as patient risk factors and sources of antibiotic-resistant organisms), and implementation of evidence-based approaches across a variety of healthcare settings. AHRQ encourages projects that address health equity, include priority populations, and target under-resourced healthcare environments. The program aims to produce evidence that can inform best practices and policy to reduce the burden of HAIs in the U.S. healthcare system. --- ## Due Dates - October 5, 2021: First standard application due date - May 26, 2025: Original closing date for applications - March 25, 2026: Final submission deadline (current closing date for applications) --- ## Funding Amount - Maximum of $500,000 total costs (direct + indirect) per year - Project period may not exceed 5 years (maximum $2.5 million total per project) - Number of awards depends on availability of funds and number of meritorious applications --- ## Eligibility Eligible applicants include: - Public and private institutions of higher education - Nonprofits with or without 501(c)(3) status (except those engaged in lobbying) - State, county, city, township, and special district governments - Independent school districts - Federally recognized and non-federally recognized tribal governments and organizations - Public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities - Faith-based and community-based organizations - Regional organizations - U.S. territories and possessions - Federal government agencies **Not eligible:** For-profit organizations and non-U.S. (foreign) institutions cannot apply as lead organizations but may participate as consortium members or subcontractors. Non-domestic (non-U.S.) components of U.S. organizations are also not eligible.
