Description
This opportunity, issued by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) at NIH, sought to establish the Liver Cirrhosis Network by funding Clinical Centers to conduct collaborative clinical and translational research on liver cirrhosis in adults. The Network’s objectives included establishing a longitudinal cohort of patients with cirrhosis and implementing an intervention trial using statins, aiming to advance understanding of the mechanisms, risk factors, and potential therapies for cirrhosis and its complications.
Clinical Centers were expected to participate in multicenter studies, contribute to protocol development, recruit and follow patients, and collaborate with a central Scientific Data Coordination Center. The research focused on prevention, identification of factors leading to cirrhosis complications, and evaluation of statin therapy.
