Description
This grant program, offered by the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS), provides travel support for Assistant Professors to serve as guest speakers at local mass spectrometry (MS) discussion groups or non-PhD granting colleges and universities in North America. The initiative aims to foster vibrant seminar programs, increase research exposure for students at non-PhD institutions, and promote the professional development of early-career MS professionals.
Due Dates

Eligibility
Eligible Speakers
- Must be an ASMS member.
- Must hold the position of Assistant Professor at the time of the event.
- No more than two sponsored trips per speaker per year.
Eligible Hosts
- Any North American MS discussion group.
- Any North American non-PhD granting college or university.
- No single host may propose more than two ASMS-sponsored events in a calendar year.
Eligible Expenses
- Speaker’s personal travel, meals, and lodging (up to $1,500).
- Funds cannot be used for group dinners or expenses benefiting others.
Application Process
- The host (discussion group or institution) must submit the Local Area Discussion Group Guest Speaker Application Form to ASMS before the event.
- The application should include:
- Name of the discussion group or institution
- Contact person and email
- Event date and anticipated number of attendees
- Invited speaker’s name, position, affiliation, and email
- ASMS will confirm eligibility and funding availability before approval.
- After the event, the speaker or host submits receipts for reimbursement (scans or copies accepted).
- Reimbursement is made directly to the speaker or the host, as indicated on the application.

- Funding is subject to the availability of the annual program budget.
- Receipts are required for all reimbursed expenses.
