Summary: Fellowship for early career scholars in the humanities and social sciences to support research and writing on China-related topics with an emphasis on public engagement and diversity.
This fellowship supports early career scholars in the humanities and social sciences as they pursue research and writing projects focused on the cultures, histories, and societies of China and their global influence. The program is designed for recent PhDs (within eight years of conferral and not yet tenured) and provides an extended leave from university duties for four to nine consecutive months. Projects may address any topic or period related to China, including Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Tibet, Xinjiang, and Chinese communities worldwide, and may use any methodological approach. Scholars are encouraged to connect their research to teaching, bridge scholarly and creative practice, or engage public audiences. A working knowledge of Chinese or another relevant language is required. Fellows participate in public writing workshops and are encouraged to consider the broader public impact of their work. The program is committed to inclusion, equity, and diversity, welcoming applicants from a wide range of backgrounds and disciplines.
