Summary: Supports early-career cardiac surgeons to develop advanced skills in arrhythmia surgery through hands-on training at University Hospital Vienna.
This fellowship provides early-career cardiac surgeons—specifically graduating cardiothoracic fellows or junior surgeons within five years of completing training—the opportunity to advance their expertise in the surgical treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. The selected fellow will spend six months at the University Hospital Vienna under the mentorship of Professor Daniel Zimpfer. The program emphasizes hands-on experience in cutting-edge electrophysiology lab technologies, minimally invasive and hybrid surgical techniques, and strategies for developing centers of excellence in arrhythmia care. In addition to technical skills, the fellowship focuses on multidisciplinary collaboration and leadership development, honoring the legacy of Matthew Gerdisch.
