Key Information: Competitive, recurring grant; BOCES may only apply as part of a consortium; nonprofit prequalification required.
This grant program provides competitive subgrants to New York State local educational agencies (LEAs)—including public school districts, charter schools, and BOCES (as part of a consortium)—to improve educational outcomes for students experiencing homelessness, as defined under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. Funding is intended to help LEAs develop and implement supplemental strategies, services, and model programs that facilitate the identification, enrollment, attendance, and academic success of homeless children and youth. Grant-funded activities must go beyond basic statutory requirements and may include tutoring, supplemental instruction, before/after-school and summer programs, mental health supports, supplies, parent engagement, and more. The program aims to ensure equitable access to education for students in temporary housing and to address their basic, academic, and unique needs through coordinated, trauma-informed approaches.
