    Description

The Medical Research Grants program from the Rhode Island Foundation provides support for laboratory, clinical, and population-based research projects conducted in Rhode Island. The program offers three distinct funding mechanisms:

    • Seed Grants for new investigators to launch pilot projects,
    • Resubmission Grants to help improve and resubmit highly rated but unfunded NIH proposals,
    • Redirection Grants to assist researchers in adjusting their focus due to changes in federal research priorities.

Priority areas include infectious diseases, cardiac research, coronary artery disease, cerebral accidents, cancer, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, spinal cord injury, diabetes, allergies, and research on performance enhancing substances. The program aims to foster independent research careers, encourage innovation, and enhance the competitiveness of Rhode Island-based investigators, with special emphasis on supporting underrepresented populations in health-related sciences.
