Summary: Provides funding to nonprofit intermediary lenders to support microloans and technical assistance for small businesses, especially in economically disadvantaged areas.
This program supports nonprofit and quasi-governmental intermediary lenders to provide short-term, fixed-interest rate microloans (up to $50,000 each) to start-up, newly established, and growing small business concerns. The goal is to assist entrepreneurs and business owners, particularly in areas suffering from a lack of credit due to economic downturns. In addition to loan funds, the program offers grants for intermediary lenders to deliver marketing, management, and technical assistance to prospective and current microloan borrowers. The Small Business Administration (SBA) also provides training for these intermediary lenders.
