This grant program, administered by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), provides funding to state, tribal, and territorial governments to enhance the development and enforcement of mining laws and regulations, improve workers’ compensation and occupational disease programs, and advance mine safety and health through training and education. Emphasis is placed on health and safety training for new and small mining operations, contract employee safety, mine emergency preparedness, powered haulage, electrical safety, and training for new or inexperienced miners and supervisors. Applicants are also encouraged to develop programs supporting the increased discovery and extraction of critical minerals, including coal, in response to national energy priorities and recent executive orders.
