Summary: Supports facility-specific technical assistance and planning to improve food-system efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Key Information: Target facilities must be in Minnesota or serve Minnesota, including Tribal lands.
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) provides competitive technical assistance and planning grants to food and beverage manufacturing facilities and food-system organic waste processors. The program helps facilities identify and evaluate efficiency measures and decarbonization opportunities that, if implemented, could reduce operating costs, greenhouse gas emissions, air pollutants, and waste. It aims to keep Minnesota’s food and beverage industry competitive and operating within the state.
Supported services include process and equipment assessments, heat mapping, feasibility studies, techno-economic analyses, engineering diagrams, energy assessments, and emissions inventories. Projects may also develop community engagement, financial assistance, permitting, and measurement and verification plans. Findings must be compiled into a technical assistance and planning (TAP) report. The program is part of Minnesota’s climate-smart food systems initiative, funded through EPA’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grants program.
