The Municipal Planning Grant (MPG) program, administered by the Vermont Department of Housing and Community Development, provides funding to Vermont municipalities for local planning and revitalization initiatives. The program aims to strengthen communities by supporting projects that align with statewide planning goals—such as compact settlements, sustainable development, and community resilience. Since 1998, the MPG program has distributed over $17 million to cities and towns across Vermont, helping them plan for future growth, address local challenges, and improve quality of life. Eligible projects include municipal plan updates, zoning and subdivision bylaw revisions, infrastructure and capital improvement planning, natural resource and flood resilience planning, and other activities that support local and regional goals.
