This opportunity, offered by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) under the NIH Research Education Program (R25), aims to increase the diversity of the biomedical research workforce by supporting educational activities that encourage individuals from underrepresented backgrounds to pursue further studies or careers in cancer research. The program funds institutional efforts to engage students in grades 6–12 and/or undergraduates, as well as their teachers and faculty, in innovative, cancer-focused research experiences, curriculum or methods development, and outreach activities.
The overarching goal is to inspire interest in biomedical sciences, help participants envision research as a viable career path, and strengthen practical research and career skills. Programs must be creative, holistic, and tailored to the needs of the target populations, with a strong emphasis on early intervention and sustained engagement.
