National Garden of American Heroes: Statues

Description

This program, administered by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), funds the design and creation of life-size statues of historical American figures for the National Garden of American Heroes. The initiative aims to celebrate the nation’s cultural, scientific, economic, and political heritage by honoring statesmen, visionaries, and innovators who have shaped American history. The National Garden is scheduled to open in July 2026, marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Each award supports the creation of up to three statues, selected from a list of eligible individuals provided in Executive Order 13978. Statues must be life-size and constructed from marble, granite, bronze, copper, or brass.

• Maximum award: $600,000 per project
• Per statue limit: $200,000
• Estimated total program funding: $30,000,000
• Expected number of awards: up to 150
• Project period: 8 months

No cost sharing or matching is required.

• Eligible applicants: Individuals
• Applicants must propose statues of figures listed in Executive Order 13978.

   • Choose 10–20 figures from the Executive Order list; NEH will determine which statues each recipient will create.
