Description
This funding opportunity from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) supports the discovery and development of novel natural products that are safe, non-toxic, and efficacious for cancer interception and prevention. The program uses a two-phase, milestone-driven cooperative agreement (UG3/UH3) mechanism:
- UG3 Phase (up to 3 years): Focuses on selecting clinically relevant cancer interception targets, developing and validating bioactivity and toxicity assays, and conducting pilot screening of natural product libraries.
- UH3 Phase (up to 2 years): Upon successful completion of UG3 milestones, supports full-scale high-throughput screening (HTS), structure elucidation, characterization, efficacy testing, and further development of promising agents.
The initiative leverages NCI’s extensive pre-fractionated natural product libraries and encourages the use of advanced screening and characterization technologies. The ultimate goal is to accelerate the translation of natural products into novel interventions for cancer prevention.
Clinical trials are not allowed under this opportunity.
