The National Cancer Institute (NCI) Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities (CRCHD) plans to issue the Continuing Umbrella of Research Experiences (CURE) Academic Career Excellence (ACE) Award (K32) to support early postdoctoral fellows in cancer research. This award aims to increase the pool of qualified researchers who can impact national health-related research needs, particularly in cancer health disparities.
The program targets candidates from diverse backgrounds, including underrepresented groups defined by life experiences, geographic location, socioeconomic status, disability, military service, and other factors that contribute unique perspectives to the cancer research workforce. It supports research training across all areas of cancer research, including basic biomedical, clinical, behavioral, and translational studies.
Applicants may apply during the late predoctoral or early postdoctoral stages, even without preliminary data. They must identify a postdoctoral research mentor and develop a comprehensive research and training plan before or shortly after starting their postdoctoral position. Applications are submitted through the institution where the postdoctoral research will be conducted.
This funding opportunity is designed to prepare awardees for future independent career development awards (e.g., K01, K08, K22) by providing foundational training and research experience.
