The NCTE Affiliate Intellectual Freedom Award honors individuals, groups, or institutions recognized by state, regional, or provincial affiliates of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) for their courageous and sustained efforts to advance intellectual freedom and oppose censorship in educational or community contexts. Established in 1997, this award is intended to spotlight actions or leadership defending the right to read, teach, and learn freely, whether in response to specific incidents or through ongoing advocacy. Awardees are recognized at the Affiliate Breakfast during the NCTE Annual Convention and featured in NCTE publications.
