Summary: Supports collaborative teams editing, annotating, and translating foundational humanities texts that are currently inaccessible or inadequately available.
This program provides funding for collaborative scholarly projects that edit, annotate, and translate important humanities texts. The goal is to make foundational works—often difficult to access or previously available only in inadequate editions—available to scholars and the public, complete with new scholarly material such as introductions, annotations, and critical apparatus. Projects can focus on works from any humanities field and may produce print, digital, or hybrid editions.
The program welcomes applications for planning, implementation, and (for projects of exceptional significance in American history and culture) Chairman’s Special Awards. Projects must involve at least two scholars working collaboratively and are expected to follow best practices in editing and translation.
