Description
This opportunity provides support for established investigators to enhance the research and educational infrastructure, mentorship, and career development activities in aging and/or Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and AD-Related Dementias (ADRD) at their academic institution. The goal is to expand institutional capacity in these fields, foster the development of early-career investigators, and implement innovative programs such as courses, curricula, pilot funding, travel awards, visiting scholars, and research networks.
Applicants may not propose to lead an independent clinical trial, but may gain research experience in a clinical trial led by another investigator.

Funding Amount
- Salary: Up to $75,000 per year for the PI; total direct costs for PI and curriculum/research coordinator salary may not exceed $100,000/year (including fringe).
- Research Development Costs: Up to $50,000 per year for research development (e.g., supplies, equipment, technical personnel, tuition, travel, statistical services).
- Curriculum/Research Coordinator: Up to $25,000 per year for a curriculum development or research coordinator.
- Total Direct Costs: May not exceed $150,000 per year (including all above, plus fringe).
- Indirect Costs: 8% of modified total direct costs.
- Project Period: Up to 5 years.

PI Requirements:
- Must be a named PI on an active NIA R01 or R01-equivalent grant, or a subproject PI on a multi-component NIA research project (e.g., P30, P01, U54, U19) at the time of application.
- Must have a clinical, research, or health-professional doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, MD, DO, DDS, DMD, PharmD, etc.).
- Must be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or permanent resident by the time of award.
- Must have a full-time appointment at the applicant institution.
- Must commit 25–50% full-time professional effort (3–6 person-months) annually to the program.

- For-profit organizations (including small businesses)
- State, local, and tribal governments
- Independent school districts, public housing authorities, regional organizations, and certain faith-based/community organizations

Additional Information
- No independent clinical trials: Applicants may not propose to lead an independent clinical trial, clinical trial feasibility study, or ancillary clinical trial. However, research experience in a clinical trial led by another investigator is permitted.
- Mentoring: The program must include a plan for mentoring early-career investigators (e.g., graduate students, postdocs, residents).
- Institutional Commitment: The institution must provide a strong research environment and commit to integrating the developed curricula into its offerings and providing protected time for the PI.
- Budget: Salary for mentors, secretarial, and administrative assistants is not allowed.
- Data Management: All applications must include a Data Management and Sharing Plan.
- Renewals: K07 awards are not renewable.
- Overlap: Applications may not have substantial scientific or budgetary overlap with other concurrent NIH career development applications.
