NIA plans to fund a secure, cloud-based platform (NIAGADS) to store, share, and analyze large-scale Alzheimer’s genetics data, supporting research collaboration, accessibility, and compliance with federal data policies.
Funder: National Institutes of Health
Due Dates (Anticipated): November 2026 (Full application deadline, projected)
Funding Amounts: Not yet specified; cooperative agreement (U24); details to be announced in official NOFO.
Summary: Supports the development and operation of a secure, scalable cloud-based platform for large-scale Alzheimer’s disease genetics data sharing, analysis, and community engagement.
Key Information: This is a forecasted opportunity; applications are not yet being solicited.
The National Institute on Aging (NIA) intends to issue a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for a cooperative agreement to develop, operate, and sustain a cloud-based data storage and computing platform for the Genetics of Alzheimer’s Disease Data Storage Site (NIAGADS). This platform will serve as the primary NIA-supported repository for archiving and distributing human genetic and genomic data related to Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and AD-related dementias (ADRD).
The platform must be secure, scalable, and interoperable, enabling efficient ingestion, curation, harmonization, and analysis of large, multi-ancestry population datasets. It will also provide robust analysis, visualization, and AI-ready resources within secure cloud workspaces, ensure compliance with federal security and data-sharing policies, promote interoperability with other NIH- and NIA-supported repositories, and offer user support, training, and community engagement.
The overarching goal is to foster collaboration, accelerate discovery, and maximize the scientific value and impact of AD/ADRD genetics research for the broader research community, in alignment with NIH and NIA strategic priorities.
