--- ## Description This opportunity supports research education activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation’s biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research needs. The program is administered by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and is designed to fund educational activities with a primary focus on: - **Courses for Skills Development:** Advanced courses in specific disciplines, research areas, clinical procedures for research, or specialized research techniques. - **Research Experiences:** Hands-on research exposure for undergraduates, graduate and health professional students, postdocs, medical residents, faculty, and science teachers. All proposed activities must fall within NIDDK’s mission areas, which include diabetes and other endocrine and metabolic diseases; digestive, hepatobiliary, and exocrine pancreatic diseases; nutritional disorders and obesity; and kidney, urologic, and hematologic diseases. The program is intended to complement, not duplicate, existing federally funded research training programs (e.g., T32, T90). Activities must be distinct from those already supported by other federal mechanisms. --- ## Due Dates - **Next application deadlines:** - January 30, 2025 - January 30, 2026 - Applications are due by 5:00 PM local time of the applicant organization. - No letter of intent is required. --- ## Funding Amount - **Maximum direct costs:** $100,000 per year - **Project period:** Up to 5 years - **Indirect costs:** 8% of modified total direct costs (excluding tuition, equipment, and consortium costs over $25,000) - **Number of awards:** Contingent on NIH appropriations and the number of meritorious applications --- ## Eligibility ### Eligible Organizations - Public and private institutions of higher education (both public/state-controlled and private) - Nonprofits with or without 501(c)(3) status (other than institutions of higher education) - For-profit organizations (including small businesses) - State, county, city, township, and special district governments - Independent school districts - Public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities - Native American tribal governments (federally recognized and other) - Native American tribal organizations (other than federally recognized) - Faith-based or community-based organizations - Regional organizations - U.S. territories and possessions - Eligible agencies of the federal government **Note:** - Non-domestic (non-U.S.) entities and non-domestic components of U.S. organizations are **not eligible**. - Foreign components, as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement, are **not allowed**. ### Eligible Individuals - Any individual(s) with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research as Program Director(s)/Principal Investigator(s) (PD(s)/PI(s)). - PD/PI should be an established investigator in the relevant scientific area and capable of providing both administrative and scientific leadership. ### Participants - Primarily U.S. citizens and permanent residents. - Programs targeting K-12 participants are **not supported**. --- ## Application Process - **Submission:** Applications must be submitted electronically via [Grants.gov](https://grants.gov/search-grants?oppStatuses=closed|archived|posted|forecasted&fon=PAR-24-074), NIH ASSIST, or an institutional system-to-system solution. - **Required registrations:** Applicant organizations must be registered in SAM, eRA Commons, and Grants.gov.
