Summary: Supports large-scale, complex, multi-component research projects addressing a common question in aging, requiring multidisciplinary teams and integrated approaches.
Key Information: Applicants must contact NIA program staff 2–3 months before submission; clinical trial optional; limited submission—see eligibility.
This opportunity supports ambitious, large-scale, and complex research projects in the field of aging. Projects must consist of multiple, highly integrated components (such as research projects, cores, and coordinating centers) that collectively address a unified scientific question relevant to aging. The mechanism is designed for studies that are too complex for traditional single-project grants (e.g., R01), and typically require multidisciplinary teams, multiple sites, and/or specialized cores.
Examples of supported research include:
Projects must be tightly coordinated, with all components contributing to the overarching research question. Both clinical trial and non-clinical trial applications are accepted.
