Summary: Supports exploratory or developmental research on the ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) of human genetics and genomics, with emphasis on new technologies and stakeholder engagement.
Key Information: Clinical trials are optional; foreign and domestic applicants eligible; strong data sharing and resource sharing plans required.
This funding opportunity supports exploratory and developmental research projects that investigate the ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) of human genetics and genomics. The program encourages studies that break new ground, extend previous discoveries, or develop preliminary data for larger projects. Research may use single or mixed methods, including empirical qualitative and quantitative approaches, as well as conceptual, legal, and normative analyses. Direct engagement with communities and stakeholders is encouraged but not required.
Of particular interest are projects examining the implications of new or emerging genomic technologies, novel uses of genomic information, and the impact of genomics on individuals, families, communities, and society. Multidisciplinary teams and diverse perspectives are encouraged.
