Funding Amounts: Up to $125,000/year salary + $50,000/year research development costs; project period up to 5 years; indirect costs at 8% MTDC.

This opportunity, part of the NIH Helping End Addiction Long-term (HEAL) Initiative, provides mentored career development awards (K08) to clinician-scientists aiming to become independent investigators in pain management research. The program specifically supports basic experimental studies with humans (BESH) that meet the NIH definition of a clinical trial and basic research. The goal is to expand the workforce of well-trained, independent clinical pain researchers to advance the NIH HEAL Initiative’s mission.

Applicants must propose to serve as the lead investigator of an independent BESH clinical trial, feasibility study, or ancillary study. Attendance at the annual PURPOSE Meeting for Pain Research is required.
All applications are due by 5:00 PM local time of the applicant organization.
Note: Non-domestic (non-U.S.) entities and non-domestic components of U.S. organizations are not eligible to apply. Foreign components, as defined by NIH, are allowed.
