Funder: National Institutes of Health
Due Dates (Anticipated): February 2027 | February 2026
Funding Amounts: Renewal for a 5-year period; specific award size not yet announced.
Summary: Supports the coordinating and data management cores for the HEALthy Brain and Child Development (HBCD) study, focusing on child neurodevelopment and substance exposure.
Key Information: Limited competition; only current HBCD study investigators eligible as PD/PI.
This funding opportunity, administered by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and other NIH Institutes through the HEAL Initiative, will support the Coordinating Administrative Core (HCAC) and the Data Coordinating Center (HDCC) for the HEALthy Brain and Child Development (HBCD) study. The HBCD project is a large, longitudinal cohort study of ~7,200 pregnant women and their children, tracking neurodevelopmental and health outcomes—especially in relation to prenatal and perinatal exposure to opioids, marijuana, stimulants, alcohol, and nicotine. The renewal will fund the second 5-year phase, continuing comprehensive assessments across biological, behavioral, and environmental domains. The HCAC provides leadership and management for the consortium, while the HDCC oversees data operations and sharing to enable broad scientific use.
