Summary: Supports predoctoral students in NIH-funded dual-degree (e.g., MD/PhD) programs for integrated research and clinical training toward physician/clinician-scientist careers.
Key Information: Applicants must be at institutions with NIH-funded predoctoral dual-degree training programs; no independent clinical trials allowed.
Description
This fellowship supports highly promising predoctoral students enrolled in combined dual-degree programs (such as MD/PhD, DO/PhD, DDS/PhD, AuD/PhD, DVM/PhD) at institutions with NIH-funded institutional predoctoral dual-degree training programs. The goal is to enhance the integrated research and clinical training of future physician- and clinician-scientists, preparing them for independent research careers in health-related fields.
Applicants must propose a well-integrated research and clinical training plan, including a dissertation project relevant to the missions of participating NIH Institutes and Centers. The fellowship is designed for candidates whose research does not involve leading an independent clinical trial, but allows for research experience in a clinical trial led by a sponsor or co-sponsor.
