Due Dates: June 2, 2025 (New, Renewal/Resubmission/Revision) | October 2, 2025 (New, Renewal/Resubmission/Revision)
Funding Amounts: Up to $275,000 direct costs over 2 years; no more than $200,000 in any single year; project period max 2 years.
Summary: Supports research leveraging existing data to understand developmental trajectories, predictors, and outcomes in late talking children; clinical trials are not allowed.
Key Information: Data sharing and a Data Management and Sharing Plan are required; no new data collection or clinical trials permitted.
This NIH opportunity, part of the Tackling Acquisition of Language in Kids (TALK) initiative, funds research projects that use existing data to advance understanding of the developmental trajectories of late talking children (late language emergence). The goal is to identify patterns, predictors, and underlying mechanisms of developmental outcomes by leveraging, sharing, and enhancing the utility of extant datasets. Projects must focus on human data and are expected to contribute to an open, shared data ecosystem, supporting future research and informing clinical and public health practice.
The initiative encourages:
Projects may include activities such as data harmonization, integration of cross-sectional datasets, creation of synthetic data, metadata development, and more. Applications must not propose new data collection or clinical trials.
All applications are due by 5:00 PM local time of the applicant organization. No letter of intent is required.
Eligible applicants include:
Individuals with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research are invited to apply. Multiple applications from the same organization are allowed if scientifically distinct.
