Funding Amounts: No budget cap; project period up to 1 year (UG3) + 4–6 years (UH3); budgets must reflect actual project needs.
Summary: Funds multi-site clinical trials of natural products through a Clinical Coordinating Center, requiring a companion Data Coordinating Center application.
Key Information: Both Clinical and Data Coordinating Center applications must be submitted together; only U.S. organizations may apply (foreign components allowed).
This opportunity supports investigator-initiated, multi-site clinical trials (Phase III and beyond) to rigorously evaluate the effects of natural products—such as botanicals, probiotics, and dietary supplements—in areas of high research priority for the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH). The grant funds a Clinical Coordinating Center (CCC) responsible for developing and implementing the trial, including project management, recruitment, retention, milestone planning, and dissemination. A companion Data Coordinating Center (DCC) application is required and must be submitted simultaneously.
The program uses a two-phase, milestone-driven cooperative agreement (UG3/UH3): a one-year start-up (UG3) and a four- to six-year full trial implementation (UH3). Projects must demonstrate compelling preliminary evidence for the natural product, including data on target engagement, bioavailability, safety, and prior multi-site trial experience by the team.
