Funding Amounts: Up to $200,000 direct costs over 2 years; max $100,000 direct costs per year; project period up to 2 years.
Summary: Supports small research projects analyzing existing genomics data to address dental, oral, or craniofacial biology and diseases, with emphasis on oral health disparities and validation of findings.
Key Information: Clinical trials are not allowed; experimental or in silico validation of results is required; strong preference for use of publicly shared data.
This opportunity, offered by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) at NIH, funds small research projects that analyze existing and publicly available genomics data—alone or with complementary data types—to address research questions relevant to human dental, oral, or craniofacial (DOC) biology, diseases, and conditions. Projects may use statistical, computational, and artificial intelligence/machine learning/deep learning (AI/ML/DL) approaches, and are expected to include experimental or in silico work to validate findings or analytic methods.
Priority is given to projects that address oral health disparities and those that investigate or characterize human biological pathways to inform intervention targets or define the pathogenicity of known genetic variants. The program encourages the integration of multiple data types (e.g., genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics, metabolomics, phenotypic, clinical, and environmental data) and the use of innovative analytic methods.
Clinical trials are not permitted under this funding opportunity.
