Funding Amounts: No budget cap; project period up to 5 years; budgets must reflect actual needs.
Summary: Supports fully remote, rigorously designed clinical trials of complementary and integrative health interventions (including mHealth), requiring strong preliminary data and a plan for diverse perspectives.
Key Information: Applications must propose 100% remote trials (no in-person contact); a Plan for Enhancing Diverse Perspectives (PEDP) is required; non-domestic organizations are not eligible to apply.
This opportunity from the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) at NIH funds investigator-initiated, fully remotely delivered and conducted clinical trials to assess the efficacy or effectiveness of complementary and integrative health interventions. All aspects of the trial—including recruitment, intervention delivery, and data collection—must be conducted remotely, with no in-person contact between research staff and participants. Interventions may utilize mHealth tools or technologies (e.g., apps, telehealth, wearables).
The program aims to build rigorous evidence for complementary and integrative health approaches, such as mind and body interventions (e.g., meditation, yoga, tai chi, acupuncture, mindfulness, music/art-based therapies) and nutritional approaches (e.g., botanicals, probiotics, dietary supplements). Projects must address NCCIH priority areas and demonstrate strong feasibility, safety, and scientific premise for remote delivery.
A Plan for Enhancing Diverse Perspectives (PEDP) is required and will be evaluated during peer review. Applications lacking a PEDP will be withdrawn.
