    Description

This limited competition opportunity from the NIH Office of Research Infrastructure Programs (ORIP) provides small grant (R03) support to recipients of the ORIP Special Emphasis Research Career Award (SERCA) K01 who have completed at least two years of their K01 award. The program is designed to help these early-career investigators transition to full research independence by supporting pilot studies, feasibility projects, secondary data analyses, development of research methodologies, or new research technologies. The R03 mechanism is intended for projects that can be completed within two years and require limited funding.

    The program specifically aims to:

    • Increase fiscal independence for SERCA K01 awardees as a precursor to full independence.
    • Enable the generation of additional data and publications to support future R01 (or equivalent) applications.
    • Provide an opportunity for awardees to demonstrate further success in the peer review process during their K01 period.

Note: Applications proposing clinical trials are not accepted.
